Legacy and Leadership: Pamela Smith Discusses the Inspiration Behind Her Book

Joy: Thank you for joining us! I am so excited to do this interview with you. Can you tell us about yourself?

Pamela: Hello! My core values are God, faith, prayer, family, and legacy with a passion for reading and personal development. I [love that] I get to serve as a wife, mom, granny, author, prayer leader, evangelist, and as a corporate career woman.

Joy: I love that. Can you tell us what inspired you to write your book?

Pamela: Two things inspired me to write my latest book. With legacy being one of my core values, I wanted to collaborate with my husband and son’s so we could create something that will outlive us. Secondly, knowing the need to have a resource that will help emerging black professionals and creatives with leadership development and personal branding so they can take their position as a leader in the marketplace.

Joy: How do you balance authenticity and creativity in your writing?

Pamela: One of the ways I balance authenticity with creativity is by sharing life experiences in a way that is relatable and digestible for readers. There’s no point in sharing an experience if there’s no lesson attached to it that the reader can learn and/or implement into their own life.

Joy: Being relatable is so important. This is why representation is crucial.

Pamela: It’s extremely important. Representation lets us know what’s possible for us. Seeing yourself represented builds confidence and lets one know that if someone like me can do it then I can too.

Joy: What is one piece of advice you would give to new authors?

Pamela: Let your purpose guide you when writing your books. There are authors who write a book because it was on their bucket list to do so. That’s more personal and centers around self. Then there are authors who write books because they want to teach, inspire, and transform the lives of others. That’s purposeful and centered around serving .

Joy: I love that! Thank you for your time today.
